This is the eucalyptus most often seen as cut foliage at the florist, with the juvenile leaves that encircle the stem. Plants can be coppiced to maintain a smaller size as well as the attractive, juvenile foliage or grown into multi-trunked trees, quickly reaching 30 ft, with flaking bark and long, narrow adult leaves to 6" with juvenile foliage showing as well. Requires full sun, lean and well-drained soil, and little summer water once established. Easy and very frost hardy, to 0F, USDA zone 7, or lower.
From the wet and cold of high mountains of New South Wales and Tasmania. The juvenile leaves are grey with fantastic purple tints and they encircle the stems completely (perfoliate arrangement), the adult leaves are long, silver-green and pendulous, its beautiful brown smooth bark peels of in small strips; it has a lovely spreading habit to 25' or more. This species will grow in most any soil and will tolerate wind well; one of the hardiest Eucs, mature trees will tolerate temperatures down to 0° F. S/M-D
Every year we carry a number of different cold hardy eucalyptus species. They are evergreen, fast-growing trees often with bluish-green, grey, or silver foliage. They usually have tall columnar shapes that do not cast too much shade. Eucalyptus are great for contributing to that subtropical look in your garden or for a spot that demands an intriguing signature tree. In the past we have carried: subcrenulata, parvifolia, dalrympleana, bridgesiana, neglecta, johnstonii, ovata, perriniana and more.
Here is the amazing thing about Eucalpts in zone 7. Even huge trees will freeze to the ground--and grow back almost to the original size immediately. Check out the regrowth on this tree 9 years after freezing to the ground.
This gum with rounded leaves grows 15-30' and is best cut back and kept as a shrub to enjoy the foliage. Leaves are silver, and many small white flowers appear in spring. A nice one to use in arrangements!

No eucalyptus enthusiast should be without this species, which has many exciting features and is small enough to fit into your garden. The juvenile leaves are fabulous and unlike anything else, being grey, round and encircling the stems completely (perfoliate arrangement). The adult leaves are long and pendulous, and the tree takes on a beautiful silvery grey look when mature, having smooth bark and a spreading habit to 25 - 50' or more. This species will grow in most any soil, so long as it has full sun, and tolerates wind well. Another of the hardiest eucs, mature trees will tolerate temperatures in the neighborhood of 0 °F.
