Crinum lineare is native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa. It has long, narrow, strap-like leaves and large, very showy, night-scented, white, funnel-shaped flowers often flushed pink and with pink stripes down each petal. The tips of the petals are strongly reflexed adding an ornateness to the flower clusters which count 4-8 flowers each. Despite coming from a winter rainfall zone plants grow and bloom in summer. Plants will reach 2-3 feet tall and wide. Easy to grow, especially in containers, producing flowers profusely in cultivation. Likely hardy to zone 7 or 8 but should be mulched with a pile of leaves in winter to protect the bulbs. Elsewhere grow in pots and protect in winter. Bulbs will reach adult blooming size around 5-6 years old.
