Brunsvigia bosmaniae [Clanwilliam (3 yr 2025)]

Brunsvigia bosmaniae is a famous South African bulb that puts on a dazzling floral display after late summer rains when fields of large, Allium-like, spherical inflorescences at least 12 inches wide bloom in great numbers with their trumpet-shaped pink flowers that smell of Narcissus, especially at night. These bulbs are grown from seed from the Clanwilliam area. Candelabra lily also has incredible leaves that emerge in fall and winter and look like a giant starfish. They number 5-8, are 8-12 inches long and tongue-like with red edges, and lie flat on the ground. Keep on the dry side when dormant in summer perhaps watering only once a month. Plant the bulb mostly buried with the neck just above the soil. This is a non-hardy bulb that can be grown as a houseplant or in a heated greenhouse or sunroom.
