The 1" white flowers hanging from slender glossy green branches on this 10-40' shrub/tree ?give the appearance of fringed cups or bells? (Griffiths) in late summer. PSh/M/Acid
Yet another cool evergreen from Chile. In the wild this can reach 40'-50' tall but in our NW gardens it remains a large shrub. One inch pure white flowers in early summer are quite nice and with luck the reddish seedpods will follow. Best in part shade but full sun ok in milder gardens.
Evergreen tree to 30', rounded lvs, reddish new growth, white lantern fls. 5 °F. Chile.
Glossy dark green rounded leaves and bell shaped scented creamy-white flowers in summer and fall. Full hot sun is fine for this species.
Slow-growing, evergreen from Chile, a large shrub to 6-10' or small tree to 10-12' and possibly up to an eventual 25' in the happiest of circumstances. The shiny, dark green leaves create a nice backdrop for the summer flowers, fragrant white, bells that hang from the younger branches. Red seed pods, a bit like flattened bell peppers add interest into the winter. Best with regular summer water in full to part sun in well-drained soil that is rich and moist, taking care to keep the roots cool in summer. Frost hardy into the upper teens °F, upper USDA Zone 8.
