Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A winter growing climber from the Canary Islands and one of the few members of the Campanula family with flowers of a colour other than blue, purple, white or pink. Succulent stems scramble over any nearby support clothing themselves as they grow with rubbery, toothed, triangular leaves. From mid winter until the summer heat, pendant , bell shaped, orange flowers, intricately veined in red, glow amongst the foliage. Improbably real, rather seeming to be molded from translucent orange rubber and stuck on by a garden prankster. With the onset of summer it quietly retreats underground to it's large tuberous roots to await the cooler moister weather needed to support such a riot of opulent growth, making it ideally suited to Perth's Mediterranean climate. A lightly shaded site with well drained soil and little if any summer water is ideal. Against the south side of a house or other building is often to it's liking making it one of the few plants to thrive in such a situation. So unlike any other plant. Plant porn as it's finest.

This crazy AWESOME & rare Campanula relative is endemic to the cloud forests of the Canary Islands & a Winter thriller! Waking up from its Summer slumber in Fall, purple shoots appear, growing into 6-10' branching stems covered with toothy lance shaped leaves. It'll scramble along the ground, through other plants, or if you'd like, can be tied to a fence or trellis for some vertical action. Covered in tremendous 3" long orangey-red bells all Winter, followed by walnut sized tasty orange fruits! Perfect for coastal California where it doesn't get too hot or cold. Thrives in rich soil & can even be grown in a 5 gallon container. Sensitive to frost. Keep moist during the growing season, and relatively dry when dormant.
Endemic to the dry Canary Island, as one might guess, this lovely, climbing perennial, to 10-12 ft, has showy bell-flowers, yellow-orange with red veins and edges, and blue-green leaves, arrow-shaped and somewhat toothy. Herbaceous with shoots appearing annually from a fleshy tuber as weather cools and moisture returns. Sun to part shade with regular water during growth periods and very occasional water in dormancy. Intolerant of cold and frost hardy in USDA zone 11. A rewarding container specimen elsewhere.
