Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Agave bracteosa 'Monterrey Frost' is a rare variegated cultivar of the well known squid agave. It looks more marine-like than plant-like with long, narrow, notably spineless, bluish to apple green leaves. In its native habit it grows festooned on sheer cliffs so provide it with excellent drainage. After 2-4 years, this species will begin to form offsets and, when they mature, each clump will produce an amazing five to seven foot tall flower spike that resembles a giant yellow bottlebrush. Treat as a houseplant in the winter months in cold regions.
A rare form of A. bracteosa, only recently available to the public but high on the agave lovers "want" list for some time. Plants eventually reach 1 ft tall x 1.5 ft wide with leaves that can either be described as green with wide white margins or white with a green stripe down the middle - both are true. Offsets occasionally in maturity. Prefers lean soil that drains well and protection from the hottest sun, so light dappled shade or afternoon shade. Frost hardy in USDA zone 8. Lovely in a container.
