Nursery contributed plant descriptions

?A beautiful garden conifer at all times of year? (Harrison), this attractive form develops into a low mound of overlapping branches; ?a superb plant for a prominent position... ? (Hillier) on a slope or large rock. PSh/M
One of the very first dwarf conifers ever selected. Dates back to 1867. Ours, in the garden, is a 65-year-old specimen with a 12-foot head. We rescued it, with its 6000 lb. root ball, from a new housing development and planted it in the garden in 2002. The plants we now have available are from this magnificent specimen.
This is a popular weeping form of Canadian Hemlock with dark green pendulous foliage. It can be trained and staked to maintain height. When pruned to a low mound, this tree can look right at home in a rock garden. Should be protected from strong winds and is intolerant of drought. Growth Rate medium
This is the most well known and popular variety of weeping Hemlock. Unrivaled specimen plant. Grows as wide or wider than tall with graceful weeping branches. Fairly slow to develop its potential size, it is more of a medium to large sized shrub of 5-8? for many years. Eventually in 25-50 years it is capable of spreading 15 to 20? or more. Deserves a prominent location. Highly prized. Awards: Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. Recommended by: the United States National Arboretum
