Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Cypripedium parviflorum var. pubescens, sometimes considered to be its own species C. pubescens, is known as the large yellow lady's slipper. It is widespread across North America and is likely the species that everyone who grew up on the prairies has stories about. The lemon yellow to golden yellow slippers contrast with the greenish yellow, twisted petals speckled with burgundy brown. The flowers are faintly scented (fruity to vanilla). A very choice plant for the partial shade of a woodland garden in a well-drained but evenly moist humus-rich soil. A sister species of the Eurasian C. calceolus.
The small flowered Yellow Lady Slipper is easy to grow in the garden. Although we don't have it in production, we have several friends that offer it. It can be visited in our display gardens in mid Spring.
