Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This is a very rare, slow-growing 25-30' tree from Northern China. Grown for its four-season beauty consisting of; brilliant orange-red autumn color, dark brown exfoliating bark and unusual three-lobed leaves. This special tree is commonly called the 'Three-Flowered Maple' for its inconspicuous green flowers which hang in clusters of three. S-PSh/M
The Three Flower Maple tree is most common grown for its excellent bright red fall color and its gorgeous exfoliating bark. It is closely related to the Paperbark Maple (Acer griseum) and has similar leaves and bark, however the growth rate is a bit slower and the fall color is a bit brighter. It thrives in shade and is one of the most deep shade-tolerant Maple species, it dislikes full sun locations except in cool climates like the Pacific Northwest. Because it has a tendency to produce a thick trunk with thick branches it is a popular species for bonsai.
Leaves and flowers are in groups of three on this slow-growing ornamental tree. The orange-red bark adds more color & the rusty-orange fall color is truly outstanding.
Light green trifoliate leaves similar to that of the Paperbark Maple (Acer griseum) but larger, form the canopy of this 30' T x 25' W shade tree. It's deciduous, densely branched, has exciting, vertically exfoliating ash-brown bark that reveals orange-brown inner bark, and has flaming orange fall color. Put it all together: light green, ash-brown, orange-brown, flaming orange in fall and you have plenty going on!
