Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A strong and adaptable, medium-sized maple, native to the southern mountain forests of Japan. Foliage resembles Acer macrophyllum, but much smaller. Large curly stigmas protrude from the flowers and are retained in the winged seed coats, giving them a horn-like appearance. Early spring male flowers are salmon - brick red, clusters. Fall colors are yellow and red. Ours are grafted males.
"A rare maple from Japan's southern mountain forests. Aptly named for the spur like 'horn' that curl up at the seed coat base." Foliage is similar to Acer macrophyllum, but much smaller.
