Nursery contributed plant descriptions

These plants typically grow on other plants and trees but the atrange part is that they make their own food, unlike parasites which feed on their hosts. So this means they can be mounted on just about anything. Plants live for years and years and can grow to hundreds of pounds. If you live in zones 9 and up Just tie it to a tree with some wet moss between the tree and the Staghorn and wait for it to bond. If you live in zones 8 and higher mount it to a board and place a hook on a tree or in your favorite location and bring it in every year. Plant prefers shade. This is the coolest fern!!
Staghorn ferns are epiphytes (air plants) and grow best in their native environment on tree trunks and branches. They need bright light and a cycle of saturated and then nearly dry potting media. (They are forgiving if under watered.) This tender tropical fern has an unusual appearance and growth habit with the typical velveteen leaves. May be grown indoors or out, as long as temperatures remain above 55 °F. Shipped in a standard nursery pot (pot in photo is not included).
Huge arching to upright flat, velvety, light-green, antler-like leaves emerge from the green to brown shell-like base. Does best in sphagnum moss on wood or in baskets. Often multiplies and the pups can eventually be separated and replanted.
