Lovely heart-shaped leaves, dark-blue-green with the iridescent silvery sheen of moonlight, clothe this climbing vine (to 30'), while the flat clusters of showy white flower heads resembling Hydrangea. S-PSh/M
Hydrangea vine is similar to the climbing hydrangea. It has self-clinging stems and beautiful large white lacecap flowers in summer. 'Moonlight' has lovely, silvery blue-green leaves that are deeply veined in green. The effect is as if the leaves are bathed in moonlight at all times of the day -- subtle but very beautiful. Excellent to grow up trees and on walls or fences in part sun to part shade. Also available: 'Rosea' with normal green leaves but lovely pink lacecaps.
Japanese climbing hydrangea is a beautiful and elegant climbing woody vine for partially shady gardens.? 'Moonlight' features dark green foliage?with a slight silver veil, much like some of the Heuchera varieties. ?Flowers are larger than the American climbing Hydrangea and feature a ring of single petals around the fertile flowers, usually in late may to mid June here in Wisconsin.? It's a self-clinging vine, and will attach itself to pretty much any rough surface like wood or brick.? I find Schizophragma has a faster growth rate than Hydrangea anomala.?
The lovely, lacy white flowers of this hard-to-find cultivar can grow up to 9 in. across and are ringed with porcelain-colored bracts. 'Moonlight' is distinguished by its spectacular heart-shaped leaves, whose deep green veins and silvery overlays create a striking pattern, and in autumn turn orange-red. Perfect for the north side of the house, this vine promises to illuminate a shady area.
I just discovered this was a Yinger intro from Japan, the pewter blue leave are stunning with their network of green and pink veins showing through the overlay, flower size is impressive, this is hard to beat and we finally have enough that I am willing to part with a few, its not the easiest of things to root.
This rare cultivar has a silvery mottling on its early leaves that can help to liven up a shady spot. Excellent climbing a tree. Grows 10'+ in ten years. Awards: Gold Medal from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.

A beautiful climbing cousin of Petiolaris This beautiful self-clinging climber is similar to the climbing hydrangea with 8-10 inch wide florets of ivory white with large heart shaped cream-colored bracts. It is suitable for most fertile soils where it will flourish on north facing walls or up a tree trunk in light sun or shade. New leaves may scorch in the hot sun. The very serrated leaf is a lovely silvery color. It is very rare to find such a vigorous climber for shade - this is it!!
A great choice for partial shade where it will still grow well, flower well and sport its beautiful pewter veined foliage. Our experience shows it is more vigorous than Hydrangea Petiolaris, but stays close to the surface on which it is grown. A PHS Gold Medal Plant Award winner! Self-clinging, too.
Choice! Bold, pewter-blue heart-shaped leaves are dissected by a network of green venation. A first class climber brought back from Japan by Berry Yinger. A spectacular vine reminiscent of climbing hydrangea. Large flat flowers encircled by white, tear-drop shaped sepals for 6-8 weeks! Great on a north facing brick wall or trained up a tall tree. Plant 24" from support. The species is from Japan and China.

A lovely climber for partial shade, this is a bit more sophisticated than Climbing Hydrangea. Silver dusted blue-green foliage with a tracing of green/pink veins is complimented by large lacecap white flowers. A vine with the potential to reach 40'.
Green leaves with white flower that turns a very nice mauve/ crimson. Another good selection if you want a climbing hydrangea in a hot humid climate.

An excellent choice where a showy vine is needed. The contrast of the deep green heart-shaped leaves with their silver overlay is intensified by the even darker green veins. Exceptionally lovely! Beautiful white flowers are bordered with creamy bracts. Possibly slow for the first few years, but eventually can cover a 30' area.

For most gardeners here in Portland, it should be 'Street Light,' but no bother -- the heart-shaped foliage still shines brightly in the late afternoon and evening. Blazing fall color. A deciduous, self-clinging vine to run up a shaded conifer or a wall -- won't disturb masonry. Starts slowly but can reach 10 x 8 ft in a few years. and is easily pruned in early spring. Established plants produce white, lacecap flowers. Best in shade - at least dappled shade in moist, acid soil. Frost hardy to USDA zone 5.
Pale green leaves with a silver sheen on the leaves. Large, 10 inch diameter white flowers. Grows to about 20 feet.
A superb climber with rounded, serrated leaves that are overlaid with silver gray. The clusters of white flowers, which appear in midsummer, measure up to 9" across. Has been in the trade for over a decade but remains hard to find. GPP award.
A climbing hydrangea relative from Japan. The silver leaves have dark green veining making a nice combination. Our plant is 20' tall after 20 years and rarely blooms (white lacecap.)
