Added bonus!: handsome large, felted, grey-green leaves, as well as huge heads of creamy white "flowers" in late summer, make this large (40-50') self-clinging vine a knockout climbing a large tree. PSh/Med/GdDrain
A truly outstanding cousin to the more common Hydrangea petiolaris, Schizophragma integrifolium has tremendous merit. The foliage is a beautiful grey green with a smooth, soft matte velvety look. The self-clinging stems are strong and the vine is vigorous. Best of all, the flowers are enormous! The dinner plate size corymbs have many small central flowers with teardrop shaped bracts all around the perimeter. Very nice grown up a tree or stone wall! Pruning as desired. Taiwan.
Just as lovely and with all the charm of the more commonly available Schizophragma hydrangeoides but this Native of Taiwan also has fuzzy, almost hairy, gray-green leaves and MUCH larger white flower heads in mid to late summer. The enormous heads of creamy white flowers surrounded by large tear-shaped bracts are fabulous! Not as hardy as S. hydrangeoides but if you're in the right zone, grow it! It is a little know fact that aerial rooting climbers (such as this) climb much faster if allowed to scramble along the ground before starting to climb vertically.

This native of Taiwan has pettable, fuzzy gray-green foliage and enormous white flowers surrounded by large, teardrop-shaped bracts. This 50' vine will add charm and beauty to any partly shaded wall.

This schizophragma has much larger foliage and flowers than S. hydrangeoides. The large, dark green leaves are very hand-some all summer and turn yellow in fall. The flower heads get to 10" across and have white, sterile flowers. This central Chinese species is supposed to grow up cliffs in its native habitat.
