Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Oshio-beni' translates to 'Great Red Tide', describing the waves of crimson foliage. This gorgeous maple usually reaches 12-18' tall with a graceful, spreading form. Large, seven-lobed leaves emerge coral-red in spring before deepening to dark-crimson by summer. Autumn color is sienna to scarlet and looks so pretty with the red samaras that decorate the tree. This maple makes an elegant specimen or accent to dress up any landscape. S-PSh/M
Acer palmatum 'Oshio beni'- Red Leaf Japanese maple Tree with upright spreading canopy. New growth is bright orange-red in spring becoming bronze or reddish-green with age. Fall color is bright scarlet. Broad serrated leaf.
Amoenum Group-red. The color of this maple is more orange-red than in most cultivars. Upright grower to 8-10' in ten years with a spreading canopy. Eventually grows to 15 foot tall or more. Leaves are larger than average. Provides excellent color contrast with other varieties. At our nursery this is everyone's top choice for red color in the spring. Easy to see why the Japanese named this the "great red tide."

AMOENUM, red. A desirable form, its foliage color is outstanding. While other red leafed varieties are blood-red, 'Oshio-beni' is orange-red! Make a bright planting of red palmatums, using 'Oshio-beni' with 'Bloodgood' or 'Moonfire', and the contrasting colors will be richly rewarding.
