3-inch, thick, stiff bluish green needles are borne in clusters of five and radiate around the stems. Small, erect seed cones are purplish-violet when young maturing to reddish-brown. Grows 6-9 inches a year reaching maturity at 6-10 high and wide. Native to Japan, North Korea, Mongolia, Siberia, and China.
