Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Magnolia cylindrica, the cylindrical magnolia, is a native of China. The selection, Marilyn's Choice, is a tightly columnar form perfect for narrow or small spaces that will reach about 20 feet tall. The creamy white, fragrant, lily-like flowers are up to three inches wide with flares of rose-pink at the base that emerge in great numbers before leafing out. Even young trees produce flowers. The flowers are followed by four inch long cylindrical fruits maturing to bright red as they split open to reveal red seeds in the fall. The foliage is long and dark green with hints of bronze and pubescence underneath turning to yellow in fall. The bark is smooth and grey. Appreciates consistent moisture. Cultivar name: 'Mjk-mc1'. For the 2025 Rare Flowering Tree Pre-Order plants will be in 1g pots and about 1-2 feet tall.
is a columnar form of M. cylindrica. The small white flowers appear by the thousands. Selected by Heritage Seedlings in Salem, Oregon.
Rarely offered, beautiful columnar cultivar, 15-20’ in height and only 5-8’ wide. Creamy white 3” blossoms with rose-pink bases (lightly fragrant) precede the foliage in spring (typically late enough to avoid hard frost) are profuse even on young trees). Showy fruits in fall are full of bright red seeds. Tight branching defies snow loads. Sun to part shade, good soil, regular water.
