Red flowering currant (although it comes also in pink and white) is the most showy of the Northwest natives. With bounteous bright pendulous flowers early in March, it shines in the winter landscape. Zone 5

This currant has long, deep red racemes in spring. One of our great native plants that had to go to Europe to be named. We saw Ribes sanguinium all over southern England and western France several years ago.
