cactus / succulent
Aloe rivierei is an evergreen cactus / succulent with green foliage. In winter orange and yellow flowers emerge. Attracts beneficial insects and hummingbirds. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in winter. Does well in gritty and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something verticillium wilt resistant.
Aloe rivierei, native to Yemen and Saudi Arabia, thrives on rocky cliffs and slopes, forming large clumps through prolific offsetting. This shrubby, branching aloe features bright yellow-green, upright rosettes on stalks, with spotted leaves in younger branches and immaculate leaves in mature ones. Its light, bright green leaves have large whitish marginal teeth, resembling cuts from pinking shears. Flowering in winter, its orange-red flowers with yellow mouths adorn compactly conical inflorescences. Little is known about its cold hardiness, but it likely withstands temperatures down to 25°F. Aloe rivierei adapts well to both full sun and partial shade, making it suitable for garden hillsides and slopes in various conditions.
A perfect gift for the plant collector.
