Nursery contributed plant descriptions

For many years now, I've been playing with the genetics of the genus Hippeastrum and several other genera in the Amaryllis family. I've had a few interesting successes and a lot of substandard crap. But......... THIS one is a keeper!!! I've named this stunning beauty 'Sunshine Superstar'. This mid-spring bloomer comes alive in April/May despite its cool greenhouse home that can dip into the low 20's when the outside temps fall below zero with the winds a howling 45 mph on this mountain. This particular breeding and propagation greenhouse is normally heated to 45, but sometimes a 100,000 BTU heater can't keep up with Ma Nature. I tell you all this to illustrate what a tough plant we have here. As a house plant, this 'Sunshine Superstar' will flower much earlier and by the time they're flowering, you can safely move them outside to use as container plants in most areas. This is the most robust and beautiful Hippeastrum that I've ever seen. Ginny (pictured below) is almost 6 feet tall, so you can get a relative idea of the size we're dealing with here.
