Arctostaphylos montereyensis is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with green foliage. In winter pink flowers emerge followed by red fruit. Attracts bees, beneficial insects and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - dappled shade and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in summer. Does well in gritty, lean, rocky and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something seaside / salt tolerant, verticillium wilt resistant and wind tolerant.

Endemic to the stabilized dunes of northern u guessed it, Monterey county CA.. Rounded shrubs usually to about 5 occasionally to 8 ft, glossy green leaves bronzed orange new growth and shred-y orange bark. Light pink flowers early to mid winter. A wee bit more tolerant of garden water but likes free draining soil (grows in sand). A good garden do-er for sun to dappled shade, summer drought but can handle some occasional summer water zone 7b/8a.
