    Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A long lost friend... Sir Merritt is known to some as the pioneer that brought hydrangeas to America, at least the florist types. We all know Merritt's Supreme and Beauty, two dark pigmented, strong stem beauties but perhaps we have found another lost in the trade. Merritt's Red (and I suspect could be Merritt's Blue in the correct acidic environment) is proving to be a magnificent hydrangea as well. It's compact statue is giving me hope it will be another great compact plant like Pia and Diadem. Excellent stems for cutting, too.
