Sida hermaphrodita is a broadleaf deciduous perennial with green foliage. In summer white flowers emerge. Attracts bees and butterflies making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Sida hermaphrodita is known as Virginia fanpetals or Virginia mallow. It is a tall, herbaceous perennial from the mallow family that can reach 6-12 feet tall. It has large, palmate leaves and clusters of small, white, hibiscus-like flowers with reddish purple stamens. It occurs in eastern North America, including Ontario, and is threatened or endangered in many jurisdictions. In Ontario, it is found only from a few locations on the Niagara Peninsula. The huge (to 12") lobed leaves and clusters of 1" white mallow flowers of this majestic (to 10'!) wildflower (rare even in the leafy shade of eastern creeks and woodlands) are enjoyed and appreciated by too few. PSh/M-W
