Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This pretty evergreen conifer is native to Mexico, from Michoacán, Guerrero, and Oaxaca where it occurs in forests and woodlands at elevations of 4,200 to 8,600 feet. With a single straight trunk, mature specimens can reach heights of 100'. Bark is attractive, reddish-brown and exfoliates in thin plates; as the tree ages it becomes dense, roughly scaly and black-brown with deep crevices. The medium-green needles are straight and stiff, reaching up to 6" in bundles of 3-4, occasionally five. This tree makes a fine addition to warm climate landscapes. S/M
