Funneled, bell-shaped, pink to off-white flowers, sometimes spotted crimson. Trusses typically have five to eight flowers. Leaves lanceolate, recurved, up to seven inches long with thick white to tawny indumentum. Grows to three feet in 10 years into a dense and rounded shrub. Blooms in mid spring. From Japan.
You could grow this Rhody for it's lanceolate foliage, undersided with a luscious, woolly fawn indumentum, which adds a distinctive presence in the landscape. Native to Japan, as you might guess, it grows 5-6' tall, and has light pink blossoms in late spring.
This unusual rhodie is desirable for it's superb foliage. New growth is covered in fawn indumentum. Leaves long and narrow, up to 7", and curved downward and backward. Funnel-shaped flowers are clear pink.

Rhododendron makinoi has narrow leaves on a 4' plant. The light tan indumentum adds an attractive touch on the long narrow leaves. Flowers are very light pink-white in April.
