Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Fittonia vershaffeltii ‘Albivenis’ displays beautiful. dark green oval leaves patterned with bright white veinings. Grows in a low, creeping mound habit. Fittonia are a genus of tropical plants native to Peru and other parts of the South American rainforest. The name comes from the botanists Elizabeth and Sarah May Fitton, who discovered it in the 19th Century. Inconspicuous, yellow to off white blooms bloom above the foliage, although this is rare when grown indoors. Nerve plants grow best in well-drained, humus-rich soils with moderate water. They are surprisingly tolerant of a range of light conditions, but avoid direct sunlight. A humid environment is ideal to prevent crisping on the leaves. Apply a slow-release fertilizer sparingly in spring. Beautiful accent plant for borders and containers. It is especially excellent as a houseplant. Protect from freezing temperatures!
