Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A high-elevation, cloud forest denizen of Chiapas, Mexico, this tender Salvia champions dark green varnished leaves and bright fuchsia-colored blossoms. Widely spaced whorls house grape-hued calyxes and flashy flowers above an airy evergreen foundation of upright stems and deeply veined elliptical leaves, which are attached by long reddish petioles. Tantalizing in a container, hanging basket or the perennial bed, Chiapas Sage detests poor drainage, prefers moderate water, needs a protected winter spot and a pruning to maintain its bushy shape.
An evergreen, shrubby perennial from Mexico. Many flowered, long, slender, arching wands of small, bright magenta pink, tubular, lipped flowers are held over glossy, green, oval shaped leaves.Extremely floriferous and with good ornamental foliage, this is magnificent plant for any protected position with some shade, where it will lend a lush tropical look. It's somewhat lax habit makes it ideal for the foot of larger plants or the top of retaining walls.

Perennial or subshrub to 3' tall with an equal spread, bearing bright fuchsia-colored flowers from summer to fall. The glossy, dark green leaves are heavily veined and therefore quite textural. Plant in well-drained soils in shade and provide regular water. Plants in our garden have done admirably in the dense shade beneath mature oaks. Hardy to 30F. Mexico.
From Chiapas, Mexico comes this lovely bright pink flowering Salvia. The flowers are super-cute with fuzzy heads & eye-catching color. Salvia chiapensis has glossy green leaves, grows to about 3’ x 3’ & blooms in Fall through Winter. Found growing at an elevation of 7,000-9,500’ in moist habitats. It’s not exactly drought tolerant like most salvias, but does best with regular water. Cut back hard in spring for fresh growth. Adored by hummingbirds.
