Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Hakone Double Blue Balloon Flower. This is a very tough perennial and won't freeze out here in the Northwest - Sue grew it in Vermont. This is a selection with starry big double blue flowers opening from that classic inflated flower bud. Long bloom period and always fun.
Well behaved clumping perennial sends up stems 15-24” tall in late spring bursting with inflated violet blue balloons in summer that open into double, outward facing bells. We trim ours down a bit in May to avoid staking. Best grown in organic, well-drained loamy soil that is kept fairly moist in full sun. Deadheading prolongs flowering. Once established they resent disturbance. Deer and critter resistant. Mark locations as they completely disappear in winter. Long lived.
