Fragaria vesca is a broadleaf semi-evergreen perennial groundcover with green foliage. In spring white flowers emerge followed by red fruit. Attracts bees and birds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with mostly sun - mostly shade and regular - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Adapts to various soil conditions. Does well in average and well-drained soil.

Fragaria vesca displays white flowers and small, sweet, bright red berries. Shiny, dark green leaves spread by runners. Native plant of the Pacific Northwest. Thrives in any type of soil. Woodland Strawberry is often used as a groundcover. Excellent for edging and rock gardens.
This fast growing ground cover is great for shade and does well planted under oaks. Plant has lighter green leaves than beach strawberry and produces smaller but more flavorful fruit (yum!) Plant it under a canopy of mature trees with Berkeley sedge, giant sword fern, and Douglas iris. Flowers March to June. This plant is found in the forests of temperate zones across the Northern Hemisphere. Woodland strawberry is used by a variety of small mammals and birds for cover and food. Host plant for butterfly larvae. Cultivated and eaten fresh by many groups of Native Americans. Found in dry to moist open woods, streambanks, and meadows. Communitites located in Closed-cone Pine Forest, Chaparral, Mixed Evergreen Forest, Yellow Pine Forest, Douglas-Fir Forest Between 98 and 6561 feet.
