Buxus microphylla 'Kingsville' plant details

Buxus microphylla 'Kingsville' is listed as a synonym of Buxus microphylla 'Compacta' by the American Boxwood Society, which serves as the International Cultivar Registration Authority for boxwood cultivars. Assertions that 'Kingsville' and 'Compacta' are two distinct plants are likely based on mislabeled plant material, but we maintain the two names separately here because of those assertions.

Buxus microphylla 'Kingsville' is a slow-growing broadleaf evergreen shrub with green foliage. Features glossy texture. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and regular - occasional water. Does well in well-drained soil.

Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Our 50 year old plant is 12”x18”. This ultimate dwarf shrub has tiny medium green leaves. Our plant grows in semi-shade.
Slow growing would be an understatement!! At perhaps 1/2 to 3/4 inch a year this IS the slowest of the dwarf boxwoods. Extremely dense foliage growing into a tight bun. It might reach 6-8 inches in 10 years, but don't count on it. Sadly, it is often mistaken for Buxus m. 'Compacta' and several websites sell 'Compacta' as 'Kingsville'. Two very different plants.
