This very elegant fern hails from the woods of Japan and South Korea. Very beautiful, this 2' fern is also unique in form; new fronds emerge in a stiff vase-shape before they flip backwards to form tassels. The stipes of this fern are covered with bristly scales, giving it the species name meaning 'many eyelashes'! This perennial fern is exceptional for mass plantings making a wonderful groundcover! Striking evergreen fern from Japan, forms an outward spreading, vase-shaped clump 2’ high and wide. Fronds are dark green with tips that flip over backwards as they unfurl, hence the name ‘Tassel Fern’. Easy to grow in soil with organic matter, consistently moist (but not wet); happiest in dappled shade but takes part shade to full shade. Deer and critter resistant. Will grow in hot summer areas as long as soil is kept moist. Nice in arrangements.
The leaves are yellow, arching and narrow with a wavy edge. Lavender flowers bloom on 10" upright scapes in late summer. Use in trough or rock gardens the unusual wavy make these hostas unique!
