Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Growing in thickets on rocky slopes of the high desert of the American Southwest, this drought-tolerant 6-8' shrub has masses of tiny white flowers followed by small, bitter almonds encased in fuzzy drupes on sharp-tipped branches. This is a wonderful choice for Xeriscape gardens. The drupe was eaten extensively by Native Americans while the actually almonds are high in hydrocyanic acid (cyanide) and it isn't advisable to eat them in quantity. S/D/GDR
