This golden needled spruce creates a moderate sized evergreen tree. We have seen 15'-20' trees. The needles are short and cover the branches. Best color in winter.
Simply stunning: bright yellow new growth softens to golden-yellow that lasts all year! Add purple cones and an interesting form for a truly outstanding combination of color and form. Plants have irregular forms when young, then become broadly conical at
The eye-catching foliage on this wonderful conifer is bright golden yellow all year-long and features distinctive interior contrasting highlights of bright-green. The spring foliage is brighter-yellow, fading to a softer yellow for summer. This slow-growing specimen becomes an open-spreading pyramidal tree up to 35' tall and just 10-12' feet wide. The showy, red cones on older plants add great contrast! The foliage may burn in hot climates, so some afternoon protection would be desired. S-PSh/M
Short, needles emerge bright yellow in spring maturing to a soft, rich gold. Interior needles are a dark green. The tree slowly develops reaching 8-10 feet in 20 years. It originated at Skyland Farms in New Jersey.
Slow growing, bright yellow conifer. If grown in partial shade, the color will tend toward a rich yellow-green, where as if grown in the sun, it will be bright yellow. Either way, the color will contrast nicely with the darker, green needles of the interior areas of the branches. Produces beautiful reddish pink cones in the spring. Growth Rate slow
Picea orientalis 'Skylands' - Bold, but not gaudy, this full, upright spruce is an excellent choice for adding bright, year-round color to a large garden. Its fine, spiky needles emerge electric yellow in spring and gradually soften to a rich gold that stands out against the dark green, interior foliage. Trees develop slowly in the early years, but achieve a habit typical of the species in time. Best color in full sun, although protection may be warranted in scorching summer climates.
This ranks as one of the best golden conifers of all time, it tends to burn until well established but with a bit of care in site selection it this should be no problem.
Narrow upright columnar tree, grows 12"-16"/yr, yellow needles year-round, Red cones. Zones 5-8.
A beautiful golden pyramid, the delicate foliage is sensitive to sunburn so partial shade is recommended, especially in the higher zones. The golden color persists year round and is joined in spring by red cones. These are made particularly apparent by the open growth habit. A real eye catcher in any garden. Grows 6-12" a year.
