Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A beautiful sage family plant whose aromatic grey-white leaves support elegant bright lavender-blue flowers in late summer; ?Worth a place in the choicest garden for its graceful habit and long season of beauty? (Robinson). S/M-D
Tall, spiky clusters of lavender blue blooms top the gray green fragrant foliage.
Grey-white foliage and airy blue-lavender flowers. Does best with dry hot conditions, forming a lovely haze of colour at the middle to back of the border against which so many colours go well. The hotter the location, the happier the Perovskia. Selected by the Perennial Plant Association as Perennial Plant of the Year 1995. Photo courtesy of Walters Gardens.
The common name is Russian sage, and it probably should be reclassified as a salvia based on the phylogenetic trees I've seen. This plant verges on being overused, though it does decidedly earn its place in a landscape by virtue of being virtually unkillable, having attractive silver foliage, and big masses of small fuzzy purple flowers in summer. More compact forms are increasingly all you'll find at most garden centers, because they can stack more of them in full bloom on racks semi trailer, but this is the original which will reach a big dramatic 4 foot height and make a real statement in the garden, but plant it in full sun and keep on the dry side or it will flop all over the place. Zone 5
Upright sub-shrub 4-5' tall, 3' wide. Gray-white stems are attractive in winter. Finely divided gray-green leaves produce a soft, delicate effect. Small lavender-blue flowers grow in large numbers on branched stems during summer. Plant in any dry soil with full sun. In coastal gardens, established plants require little supplemental water. Moderate moisture in warmer regions. Hardy to 10F. Afghanistan, Pakistan.
