Opuntia phaeacantha 'Little Millard' is an evergreen cactus / succulent with blue and green foliage. In summer orange and yellow flowers emerge followed by red fruit. Features glaucous texture. A Cistus introduction. One of the best opuntias for fruit, shared with us by keen-eyed plantsman Tim Hanis. This low grower, to only about 12-18" but spreading to 4-5' has bluish pads, rusty spines, yellow flowers with a hint of orange, and abundant dark red fruit from mid-summer through autumn. Beautiful in the garden, even if you don't make jelly. Full sun, reasonably well-drained soil, USDA zone 4.
