Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Redstone' was bred by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for its increased fruit production and size, as well as better flavor than traditional varieties. 'Redstone' is unusual from most other dogwoods not only in the size and shape of its fruit but also the bright yellow flowers - most other dogwoods are white, red, or pink flowering. This species is also more resistant to many diseases than other dogwoods and performs better in a wider range of environments and requiring less maintenance. Occasional summer pruning can maintain the ideal shape in formal settings as a tree, otherwise a large shrub form will naturally develop over the years.
The fruit persist on the branches and are prized by wildlife, especially birds.
