Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A choice native coneflower, the Texas Coneflower produces 3-5" bright golden yellow daisies that are borne singly, or in small clusters of up 5 flowers, and are held on sturdy upright stems in summer. A rosette of large, rich dark green glossy foliage subtends the flower stalks. Texas Coneflower provides us with a medium-sized Rudbeckia that is similar in habit to the stately Giant Coneflower. The Texas Coneflower is found only in Louisiana and SE Texas. A good nectar and pollen source for pollinators. Excellent deer resistance. Rudbeckia texana and R. nitida have sometimes been grouped as one species. The most current treatment in the Flora of North America separates the two as individual species. We have to say thank you to Marc Pastorek and C.C. Richmond for sharing this with us!
