RHS Winner of Garden Merit This hydrangea is amazing us all with its full (fullest we've seen since Phantom) blooms. Blooms begin creamy white but turn pink as the bloom ages into the fall. Upright nature makes it a star for your late summer garden interest. It's a medium growing paniculata with a habit expected to be 4 or 5' tall at maturity with annual pruning.
A winner of the 2009 Royal Horticulture Society's Award of Garden Merit, Silver Dollar is a compact and sturdy PeeGee or Paniculate Hydrangea producing dense rounded to conical clusters composed of large pure white florets. Its smaller mature size lends this easy to grow shrub to smaller spaces and low maintenance garden and landscape settings. Provide a full to mostly sunny position and a moderately fertile well-drained soil. You can even grow Silver Dollar Hydrangea in medium to large containers PeeGee or Panicle Hydrangeas will do well in almost any well-drained garden soil but will benefit from a good quality mulch and from the addition of humus in poor soils. They seem to be adaptable as far as pH is concerned and are considered by many to be salt tolerant. The Panicle Hydrangea flowers on new growth and so can be selectively pruned in late winter or early spring and can even be cut back to within 6" of the ground annually. Average moisture and a full to mostly sunny site is best.
