Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Exotic 4-5" wide glowing scarlet flowers are produced from spring to fall on a this vigorous bronze leaved passion vine. The Scarlet Flame Passion vine is a more vigorous hybrid of Passiflora vitifolia x V. coccinea developed by Patrick Worley and it can become quite large, reaching 25' or more in a season. Where not hardy it can be overwintered indoors with sufficient light. This tropical species may overwinter in the warmer portions of zone 8B in the mildest winters with sufficient protection (mulch + east or south exposure) and where it has excellent drainage. This hummingbird pollinated Passion vine may grow to 25' or more and in frost free climates may flower for much of the winter. During winter (the natural dry season for this plant) it should be kept slightly dryer, though in summer it seems to appreciate a moderate amount of moisture. Listed as a host for the Gulf Fritillary and other Longwings, but when the butterflies have a choice they seem to prefer Incense and the Maypop, at least in our experience. Grows To: 12'-30'H
