Curcuma 'Royal Scepter' is a broadleaf semi-evergreen perennial with green foliage. In fall, spring and summer pink, red and yellow flowers emerge. Densely packed pink bracts mature to become near true red edged with yellow throats ultimately producing an 8-12" high by 4" wide spike from which sunny yellow true flowers emerge daily. Royal Scepter Ginger produces large tropical, nearly banana-like foliage and is a dense clump forming to slowly spreading perennial that may flower from late spring to fall. Provide a moist, well-drained, moderately fertile, humus rich soil with cool to filtered sunlight. A type of 'Hidden Ginger', Royal Scepter goes dormant in fall and readily returns once the soil warms in spring. An easy container plant or garden gem where hardy. Long lasting cut flower. Curcumas are clump forming rhizomatous gingers that enjoy an average moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter and with moderate fertility. These root hardy perennials will die completely to the ground in winter and return in late spring where hardy. They also make wonderful container specimens as well. Provide these heat loving hardy gingers with shade during the hottest portions of the day. Early morning sun as well as shifting shade are generally quite suitable. Clumps may be divided in late winter and early spring if desired.
