Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This conversation piece is an heirloom annual that produces up to 6" wide, wavy, long-lasting, deep crimson 'cockscomb' flower heads throughout the summer on an upright to spreading plant that can reach 30-36" high. Cockscomb is an easily grown, sun loving annual that may reseed under good conditions. Provide with a well-drained moderately fertile soil for the best results. Collect the shiny black seeds to replant next spring or allow the seed to fall on an undisturbed exposed soil for natural reseeding to occur. The flower heads of the crested Cockscombs make exceptionally long lasting fresh or dried cut flowers that retain their color in dried arrangements and potpourri.
