Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Large clusters of royal purple, 2" wide flowers nearly cover this large tropical shrub to small tree with the peak flowering times in spring and summer but it may produce some flowers nearly year round under warm tropical conditions The large smooth deep green foliage makes a wonderful foil for the flowers. The Purple Glory Tree is one of the easiest Tibouchinas to train into a tree standard or it can be pruned to maintain it as a smaller shrub. It can be grown as a medium to large container plant where not hardy. Provide the Purple Glory Tree with a full to mostly sunny, well-drained, moderately fertile soil for the best flowering and densest growth habit. Uncommon but freely flowering and an easily grown tropical. Temperatures below 32 °F may cause temporary defoliation and the Purple Glory Tree is reportedly hardy to about 28 °F for short periods.
