Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A dwarf pink Vitex! Pink Pinnacle™ Dwarf Chaste Tree produces dense spikes of rich pink flowers in waves throughout the summer months. A compact, small to medium sized deciduous shrub or dieback perennial in the coldest portions of its range. The flowers attract bees and other pollinators. Vigorous, disease and pest resistant shrubs, Vitex are tolerant of a wide range of soil types and growing conditions and this one is small enough for nearly any garden or even medium to large containers. For optimum results provide your new Vitex with a full to mostly sunny location and a well-drained soil. Developed through the breeding work of Carol Robacker at UGA. Vitex are great for summer color and their large spikes of colorful flowers attract butterflies and bees. Vitex are adaptable to a wide variety of soil types and are considered to be drought tolerant enough to be suitable for Xeric gardens. These durable and easily grown shrubs are basically pest and disease free, are deer resistant, and are moderately salt tolerant. Removing spent flowers and seed heads will promote the production of wave after wave of new flowers throughout the summer and into fall. In the coldest portions of their range, zone 5-6, Vitex are grown as die back perennials that regrow each spring to flower in summer. In late spring once growth begins prune away any growth that doesn't show any signs of resprouting or has freeze damage. A winter mulch will also help to further their chances of survival in these areas.
