Pereskia bleo is a deciduous cactus / succulent with green foliage. In summer orange flowers emerge. Grows well with mostly sun - dappled shade and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Does well in gritty, lean, rocky and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant and humidity tolerant.
2" bright orange double rose-like flowers with white stamens are born in summer on this unusual Cactus species. Rose Cactus is probably the least cactus-like Cactus with it's broad rounded semi-succulent foliage on a shrub-like plant that is best grown in partial shade. An easy and rewarding plant. Deciduous below 40 °F.
The Rose Cactus is considered to be one of the oldest true Cacti species and has not yet lost it's true leaves which are interestingly edible and are consumed by Asians for it's believed medicinal properties. This cactus is native to the jungles of Central America where it grows in partial or filtered shade under average moisture conditions. This is not a cactus for full sun like so many others. Provide the Rose Cactus with a well-draining cactus like soil mix for the best results. Allow the soil to become moderately dry between waterings particularly when not in active growth in winter.
