Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This is the old fashioned Petunia whose fragrant flowers can vary from dark violet purple to pure white. Some plants may even produce multi-colored flowers. These are taller growing hybrids that produce a near continuous show of flowers beginning in early spring and can last well into fall under good conditions. Botanically listed as simply Petunia x hybrida, this old heirloom can be a flowering machine though its delicate buds and flowers prefer not to be watered or rained on so be sure to water your plants from beneath the foliage. Provide a moderately fertile, well-drained soil and most or a full day of sun. In hot summer climates consider providing midday to afternoon shade. Good air circulation, sunlight, and drainage seem to be key to plant health. Save seeds to replant or allow them to fall in place and leave undisturbed over winter. Pinch them back about half way at planting to promote fuller plants. Periodic deadheading will help them to live longer and promotes flowering.
