Barleria lupulina is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with blue and green foliage. In fall, spring and summer apricot and yellow flowers emerge. Egg yolk yellow to pastel orange flowers emerge from spikes of red and green bracts and may be produced nearly throughout the year. The flowers contrast nicely with the colorful blueish green, glossy foliage with reddish-purple veining. Hophead Barleria develops into a small but well branched full shrub and makes an easy to enjoy container plant as it is drought resistant enough to use in xeriscapes where hardy. Grows well in full sun to part shade. Hophead Barleria readily reseeds so deadhead it to prevent unwanted seedlings.
