Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A rare native Liatris, Gulf Blazingstar produces small clusters of rich purple disc flowers that are loosely scattered along a spike-like stem. These may be born over a fairly long period, often beginning in early summer with some flowers still in open even into early fall on well-established plants. A low maintenance native perennial that grows from a bulb-like corm that will produce more and more flowering stems the larger and older it gets. One of the smaller growing and longer flowering Blazingstars with good drought resistance once well-established. Attracts loads of butterflies and a variety of other pollinators. Commonly found growing in sandy pine uplands in eastern Texas and western Louisiana.
