Asclepias viridis is a broadleaf deciduous perennial with green foliage. In summer green flowers emerge. Attracts bees, beneficial insects, butterflies and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and regular - low water. Each of the large green flowers are centered with five purple and white hoods, which is where the nectar is located, and are born in large clusters that can be up to 6" across. Green Milkweed is a taprooted native perennial with a generally compact habit.The generously long lanceolate foliage makes excellent fodder for caterpillars of the Monarch and Queen butterflies. May be found in flower anytime between late spring and fall. Green Milkweed is a taprooted perennial that should not be disturbed once established. Suitable for moist soils but does fine under average garden conditions and is considered moderately drought resistant once well-established. Typically a clump forming perennial and is reported to spread by rhizomes but not aggressively so. May reseed under good conditions.
