Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Spikes of soft orangey yellow flowers are produced from spring to frost, or year round under tropical conditions, on this upright to spreading naturally evergreen tropical plant. Florida Summer has a moderately compact habit with rich green foliage whose endless procession of flowers are sure to brighten any tropical scene. In areas with hot summer climates Crossandras tend to prefer cool filtered sunlight, early morning sun, or very late afternoon sunlight. In cooler climates they can tolerate full sun. Use Crossandras as container plants as specimens or as companion plants. In zone 10 they may be used as perennials. Crossandras are excellent for mixed containers and in the garden for bright color in shaded areas where they often flower until frost. If kept from freezing temperatures they can easily reach 3-4' high or can easily be pruned to keep them in bounds. They can tolerate full sun but at least here in the hot South they have a tendency to curl their leaves on the hottest days and do not perform as well.
