Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Large clusters of brilliant orange, 3" long tubular flowers practically cover up this vigorous climber which may begin flowering in late fall with the main show in winter and spring and sporadic summer flowers on well-established plants. The flowers attract overwintering and early spring migratory hummingbirds. The Flame Vine is a vigorous climber clinging by tendrils to any nearby support. It can be used to cover sturdy fences and stout arbors and trellises as this woody vine can become quite large and heavy and will even climb and cover larger trees so select your planting site carefully. The Flame Vine is considered hardy to about 25 °F and well-established plants may return from the roots if frozen to the ground in the warmer portions of zone 8B. *Note: Due to its winter and spring flowering it typically does not flower well in years when freezes have occurred making the Flame Vine most suitable in zones 10 and 11.
