Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This Summersweet produces extra long, wavy spikes of fragrant white flowers that attract a variety of pollinators during summer. Like Albert Einstein's famous unkempt hair, this Clethra may at times seem a little wild and wooly! The white flowers of Einstein™ Clethra contrast nicely with the deep green foliage on this compact selection of this easy to grow native shrub. Provide Clethras with a well-drained, moist to average moist soil with partial shade in hot summer climates. Tolerant of full sun in moist soils where summers are cooler. Einstein™ Clethra was selected not only for its extra long spikes of fragrant white flowers but also for its compact habit and heat tolerance. The Sweetpepper Bush or Clethras are naturally suckering deciduous shrubs. The suckers can be removed to prevent colonization if desired. These native shrubs are also notoriously slow to leaf out in spring and often wait until May to do so in our zone 8B gardens and nursery.
